Because I occasionally miss my newspaper days of column-writing and sometimes find myself griping about the quality of local journalism, I have decided to go back to scribbling opinion pieces in this blog.
That quality of journalism, by the way, has little to do with those still struggling to fill our local papers. Instead, it relates to the way newsrooms are being decimated by owners who put over-inflated profits ahead of news content.
Latest sign of this worsening issue involves still more newsroom bleeding with buyouts at The Waterloo Region Record that will soon mean loss of at least another eight experienced journalists.
Enjoy the blog where I pledge to never write about roundabouts.
