Accessibility and transparency.
Fine words when used to describe Kitchener council’s decision to start uploading council and committee meetings to the web. Video of meetings will be posted by October within three days of meetings and, hopefully, will soon be live-streamed.
So far so good to make it easier for everyone to stay in touch with local government.
Which is why it seemed so ironic that, during the same council meeting councillors approved the increased access via the web, they voted against my appeal to give the local labour council a chance to appear and speak before council.
The 9-1 vote was on my motion to defer a decision to endorse a bill from Kitchener-Conestoga MPP Michael Harris to have the provincial government establish open tendering on all masonry contracts.
